Machinery Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Machinery Safety Specialist to join our team at Amazon UK Services Ltd. in A10. As a key member of our Amazon Machinery Safety Compliance Inspection team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe design and operation of our cutting-edge technology in our vast array of facilities.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will conduct equipment inspections against a pre-determined set of criteria to identify areas for improvement and increase the level of safety. You will require technical knowledge of EU machinery safety standards, including PUWER/UWED applications and regulations to meet all European country requirements. Emphasis will be on sound safety engineering principles, basic machinery knowledge, and the ability to engage with cross-functional teams to transform this knowledge into sound, compliant processes for the EU network.
Key Responsibilities- Support Amazon facilities by performing suitable and sufficient risk assessments of all relevant machinery and equipment, for legacy and new launch sites.
- Support the development of solutions that meet Amazon's high standards for safety, risk reduction, customer satisfaction, efficiency, scalability, simplicity, and operational excellence.
- Engage and manage the involvement of the inspection team with projects, reacting to changes to facilitate attendance for inspections.
- Complete the lifecycle of inspection by effectively reviewing corrective measures and implementing controls in the inspection tool.
- Provide input to change projects, build-outs, and development projects and act as a technical machinery advisor for the EU WHS team.
- Keep tracking data up-to-date for the inspection program. Plan and arrange own travel applying frugality and efficiency of time on sites.
Experience in a similar role of machinery inspection is essential. In-depth understanding of the EU Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and its relevant harmonized standards is required. Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments are also necessary. A demonstrable record of managing machinery safety inspections across large multi-site businesses is essential. Credibility and the ability to effectively engage and influence other functional leaders and their teams to build buy-in to EU Health and Safety strategies and change processes are also required. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer-based tools to support system engineering and briefing/proposal development activities is necessary.
Preferred QualificationsExperience of working for a Notified or Approved body for Machinery Safety is desirable. Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or equivalent, preferably gained in a low-margin, high-volume environment with warehousing and logistics beneficial. Formal training certification in Machinery Safety (such as CMSE) is also desirable. Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment is beneficial. TUV Certified Functional Safety Engineer is also desirable. Experience interacting with cross-functional teams and managing projects with minimal supervision is essential.
