About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Procurement Specialist to join our team at BAM Construct & Ventures UK. As a key member of our Central region, you will be responsible for implementing the Royal BAM Group purchasing policy within the region.

As a Procurement Specialist, you will work collaboratively with procurement and commercial teams to support the business in tender and contract stage procurement activities. You will also be responsible for managing the implementation of the Material Procurement Plan, generating requests for quotations, negotiating rates and terms, and using value engineering alternatives to produce better outcomes for BAM.

You will have the opportunity to work with a range of stakeholders, including suppliers, project teams, and category managers, to ensure effective purchase order creation, reporting, and supplier relationship management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with Tender/Project Teams to develop Material Procurement Plan
  • Manage the implementation of the Material Procurement Plan in collaboration with the project team
  • Generate requests for quotations for materials
  • Negotiate rates and terms
  • Use value engineering alternatives to produce better outcomes for BAM
  • Use Manufacturer, distribution, and specification Framework Agreements for both direct and indirect procurement
  • Report buying gains against budget allowances
  • Ensure effective Purchase Order creation on SAP MM
  • Support the 3-way matching process and assist the project/accounts payable team with invoice queries
  • Close collaboration with BAM UK & Ireland category managers to set priorities and follow category plan
  • Supplier relationship management and development of same with operations, commercial, and estimating teams
  • Support the business with performance and supply issues, including monitoring financial health of material suppliers
  • Engage with H&S, Sustainability & Social Value teams
  • Support Prompt Payment Group
  • Support Project mobilisations
  • Liaise and promote the services of the following new departments, which will be established at Divisional level: Supply Chain Shared Services, Category Management, Supply Chain Management Systems
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a construction buying role
  • Ability to balance divisional and regional procurement needs
  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner and a desire to seek opportunities to develop synergies across the Construction segment and the wider Royal BAM Group
  • Expert awareness of construction materials and vendors
  • Analytically strong, articulate, and able to express your vision clearly
  • Demonstrable expertise in procurement of Groundworks, Masonry, Carpentry, and FF&E materials
  • Ability to support our in-house BAM Service Engineering team
  • Competent with IT and open to supporting new systems - SAP MM experience is a bonus
  • CIPS qualified or studying towards it - beneficial but not mandatory
  • Driving licence essential
