The Role

As an Optical Materials Scientist at QinetiQ, you will be working on designing and developing innovative electro-optic technologies. Your expertise in materials research and experimentation will inform the development of novel materials that control how light and infrared radiation interact with surfaces.

Day-to-day, you will contribute to enhancing safety and security by developing advanced optical materials for surveillance systems and sensors. You will be part of a dynamic team in a multidisciplinary research environment, working closely with Engineers, Physicists, Vision Scientists, and Chemists.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to and leading technical tasks relating to materials, devices, and measurements
  • Conducting materials prototyping by designing, modelling, synthesising, formulating, applying, and characterising novel materials and coatings
  • Preparing, designing, and participating in laboratory experiments and outdoor trials
  • Providing advice and consultancy for internal and external programmes and bids
  • Managing your own time and technical progress to meet agreed goals and deadlines
  • Maintaining detailed technical reports and logs

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site. Hybrid working patterns are available.
