Electro-Optic Materials Engineer

The Role
As an Optical Materials Scientist at QinetiQ, you will be working on designing and developing innovative electro-optic technologies. Your expertise in materials research and experimentation will inform the development of novel materials that control how light and infrared radiation interact with surfaces.
Day-to-day, you will contribute to enhancing safety and security by developing advanced optical materials for surveillance systems and sensors. You will be part of a dynamic team in a multidisciplinary research environment, working closely with Engineers, Physicists, Vision Scientists, and Chemists.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to and leading technical tasks relating to materials, devices, and measurements
- Conducting materials prototyping by designing, modelling, synthesising, formulating, applying, and characterising novel materials and coatings
- Preparing, designing, and participating in laboratory experiments and outdoor trials
- Providing advice and consultancy for internal and external programmes and bids
- Managing your own time and technical progress to meet agreed goals and deadlines
- Maintaining detailed technical reports and logs
This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site. Hybrid working patterns are available.
