We are seeking an exceptional Senior Scientist to join our team at the Met Office, a world-leading weather and climate science agency. As a Climate Change Mitigation Expert, you will play a critical role in helping us understand and address the impacts of climate change.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in a relevant scientific field, with a PhD or equivalent experience. You will be responsible for developing and applying climate models, such as the FaIR Simple Climate Model, to deliver high-impact policy-relevant climate science.

In this role, you will work closely with government departments, such as the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, to provide expert advice on climate change mitigation strategies. You will also contribute to international activities, such as supporting IPCC projections, and collaborate with IAM partners on scenario development and understanding mitigation options.

The annual salary for this position is up to £57,639, which includes a base pay of £41,725 and an outstanding Civil Service pension. The Met Office offers a great benefits package, including 27.5 days of annual leave (rising to 32.5 days after 5 years) and the option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave.
