About the Role:

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Sports Mentor to join our team at a Specialist Education School in Penarth. As a Sports Mentor, you will play a key role in developing the physical abilities and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits of pupils aged 3-19 with Special Educational Needs.

The school benefits from on-site professionals, including a Physiotherapist and Psychologist, who provide valuable insights to support students' development both physically and academically. Physical activity is essential for improving motor skills, enhancing cognitive abilities, and building positive relationships. As a Sports Mentor, you will help promote these outcomes inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist teachers in ensuring students remain active and engaged in both classroom and outdoor activities.
  2. Promote physical and mental well-being by encouraging healthy and active lifestyles.
  3. Work with pupils exhibiting challenging behaviours to help them unlock their potential and succeed.
  4. Collaborate with school staff, parents, and external professionals to provide the best possible support for students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  5. Adapt to the needs of students aged 3-19, who may have autism or complex medical needs, helping them thrive and develop independence.
Requirements:
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • EWC registration.
  • The ability to provide two references from the last 24 months.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Up-to-date safeguarding training.
