Medical Virology Specialist

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Consultant in Virology and Microbiology to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust.
The successful candidate will work as part of an integrated Department of Infection, joining 15 permanent and 8 locum/honorary consultant colleagues across the Trust.
The post holder will be responsible for providing a comprehensive consultant Virology service for all the Barts Health sites and those sites for which Barts Health holds SLAs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver diagnostic, clinical, stewardship, and infection prevention and control services to patients, staff, and local general practitioners.
- Participate in departmental teaching activity, including training of clinical scientists and specialist registrars in Medical Virology, Medical Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a comprehensive consultant Virology service.
- Be responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day clinical Virology service.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have:
- Registerable medical qualification (MBChB, MBBS or equivalent).
- FRCPath (UK) or equivalent qualification.
- Full and Specialist registration in Medical Virology or Medical Microbiology with the General Medical Council or eligibility for specialist registration within 3 months of interview.
- Experience of clinical leadership of multidisciplinary teams and the ability to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, and respond appropriately to service needs.
