About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Systems Optimization Specialist to join our team at Thames Water. As a key member of our Water Systems Performance team, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing water services for our customers, communities, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Strategic Plans: Develop the strategic water distribution system to enable greater performance and resilience from our critical assets, considering health and safety, water quality, supply resilience, leakage, energy efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Operational Excellence: Achieve operational and regulatory targets, while setting the strategic direction for your region.
  • Water System Management: Create initiatives for managing the water system across the region, accounting for population growth and the influence of climate change.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in the source-to-tap operation of the strategic water distribution system.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide coaching and mentorship to the System Optimization team and support the training of other Thames Water colleagues.
  • Process Improvement: Drive improvements of defined business processes and lead innovative new ways of working.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Enhance data-driven capabilities of our assets, so that critical business insights can be gained and acted upon.
  • Project Facilitation: Facilitate engineering and customer-led improvement projects.
  • Technical Support: Provide specialist technical support to the wider business in the management of unplanned emergency incidents.
Requirements
  • Relevant Education and Experience: Hold relevant education/experience in the water industry or a suitable STEM discipline (or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills: Have a competent IT skillset, capable of using qualitative/quantitative data to resolve problems and drive business performance.
  • Leadership and Communication: An excellent communicator who demonstrates strong leadership skills and an ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Comfortable working with tight deadlines and high-profile projects.
  • Preferred Skills: Experience working with GIS mapping systems, SCADA telemetry, and standard corporate IT systems such as Microsoft 365 is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Driving License: Full driving license and own transport are required, due to mandatory attendance at meetings spread across various Thames Water sites.

  • Competitive Salary: Offering a starting salary from £42,880 per annum.
  • Holiday Entitlement: 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (Plus bank holidays).
