Job Title: Communications Officer

Imperial War Museums (IWM) is seeking a skilled Communications Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Communications department, you will play a vital role in delivering the Communications strategy for IWM's public programming, including temporary exhibitions, public events, and learning activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and deliver effective communications campaigns to promote IWM's temporary exhibitions and public programming.
  2. Work closely with IWM's marketing and digital engagement teams to ensure integrated and well-coordinated communications, marketing, and digital campaigns.
  3. Support the Communications Manager (Exhibitions and Programming) with developing and delivering communications plans that reach IWM's core target and developmental audiences.
  4. Develop and maintain good working relations with the media, including print, broadcast, online, and digital outlets.
  5. Deliver press launches and views for IWM's exhibitions and programming.
  6. Support with the delivery of IWM's annual programme announcement, including event and media sell-in.
  7. Map out approaches to a range of press contacts for each campaign and provide all necessary information.
  8. Secure broadcast coverage for communications campaigns and oversee TV/radio/film crews.
  9. Deliver photo calls, including sell-in and onsite management of photographers.
  10. Identify opportunities to develop online media coverage for communications campaigns and engage digital media journalists.
  11. Plan and deliver communications campaigns for IWM Publications in connection with temporary exhibitions and programming.
Requirements:
  • Strong communications and marketing skills, with experience in developing and delivering effective communications campaigns.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to write engaging and compelling content.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and digital marketing tools, with experience in using them to promote exhibitions and programming.
