About the Role

The role of Planning Policy and Strategy Development Manager is a key position within the Planning Division of Southwark Council, which is a Central London borough undergoing rapid transformation. As a leader in planning policy and strategy for development, you will play a vital role in delivering the council's objectives and modernizing the planning service.

In this position, you will lead on planning policy and strategy, ensuring that the planning service remains contemporary and effective in assessing applications, writing policies, and monitoring change and development. You will develop strong working relationships with colleagues internally and with planners throughout London, understanding their aims and priorities.

As part of the Planning Service, you will work in partnership with planning colleagues and professional associations to drive forward the improvement agenda through their staff. You will also have the opportunity to lead your own team development plan and service within the division, ensuring that the work delivered is highly relevant and meets deadlines.

About You

This role requires a planning qualification and substantial knowledge and experience of planning in a major city environment, as well as the ability to manage complex work, including supervising others, and deliver to deadlines to a consistently high quality.

You will need to be enthusiastic and passionate about learning and contributing to the wide variety of work undertaken by the division, with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of planning policy, particularly strategic planning issues, and translate complex issues into development management policies.
