About the Role

The Head of Discovery Biology will be responsible for leading a team of highly skilled scientists in the discovery and development of novel therapeutic targets for cardiometabolic diseases. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including computational, genetics, and in-vitro stakeholders, to achieve a high level of scientific and therapeutic innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose, manage, and progress scientific programs into the Novo Nordisk pipeline, ensuring alignment with business objectives and strategic goals.
  • Scientifically influence and execute strategy for metabolic disease areas, driving state-of-the-art drug discovery and challenging project hypotheses and result interpretations.
  • Work with therapy area heads and lead teams to identify and reduce scientific gaps, ensuring a robust and innovative pipeline.
Line Management Responsibilities
  • Define annual goals and objectives for team members, oversee year-end performance reviews, and conduct team follow-ups on employee survey results.
  • Assign team members to global and local cross-functional teams, matching skills with business requirements and driving continuous improvements.
  • Be responsible for performance management, onboarding of new employees, coaching, and mentoring of junior scientists.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, with relevant experience within industry and academia, including prior experience leading and managing research programs.
  • Subject matter expert in a field related to cardiometabolic disease, with a high level of creativity, innovation, and inquisitiveness.
  • Deep interest and talent in creating and establishing strong interpersonal relations, with excellent situational leadership and change management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and cross-cultural understanding to interact in the global organization.
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
