Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Vix Technology, a global leader in automatic fare collection, transit information, and transit analytics solutions, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Engineer to join our team. With a presence in over 200 city and regional transport authorities worldwide, Vix has been at the forefront of transforming fare collection for more than 35 years.

Job Summary

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to support, maintain, and improve our products and ancillary equipment. As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for identifying system faults, rectifying hardware and software issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and diagnose system faults using electrical testing procedures and Vix software monitoring tools
  • Rectify system, on-street hardware, and on-vehicle hardware faults within Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Correspond with customers on maintenance and fault issues
  • Maintain and improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Install and commission on-vehicle and on-street equipment
  • Maintain and update documentation accurately
  • Liaise with local teams and Configuration Engineers
  • Ensure compliance with planned maintenance programs
  • Attend periodic progress meetings with Vix staff
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and compliance with Health and Safety Standards
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • NVQ or similar in electrical engineering or Level 3 NVQ or similar in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Ability to work independently to deliver and maintain high standards when unsupervised
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Customer awareness and ability to demonstrate professionalism and effectively interact with customers
  • Proven experience as a field-based engineer, time-served electrical engineer, or time-served vehicle technician with a demonstrable track record of fault diagnosis of vehicle electrical/electronic systems
  • Working in a pressurised environment, meeting tight deadlines
Desirable Skills

The following skills are desirable but not essential:

  • Level 4 Diploma (or similar) in Vehicle Diagnostics
  • Working on Real Time Information systems
  • Experience of GPRS communications
  • Working with IT systems with knowledge of applications and basic networking
  • Proven experience in a similar environment
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems and procedures
  • Proven electrical knowledge to diagnose faults
  • Ability to identify best engineering working practices
  • Experience and/or accreditation as part of The HEA, including Emergency First Aid at Work training and any HERS Found level accreditation
  • NVQ Level 2
