Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Associate at IBB Law, you will provide high-quality legal services to clients on all aspects of wills, trusts, tax planning, Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection, and Probate law. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Will drafting and execution
  • Probate and administration of estates
  • Lifetime tax planning and trust drafting
  • Advising on Enduring Powers and Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Court of Protection matters

You will also be responsible for developing your technical knowledge and skills, including:

  • Analyzing information and reaching sound decisions
  • Understanding and adhering to instructions
  • Communicating succinctly both orally and in writing
  • Researching appropriate case law and technical and legal precedents to progress matters

Knowledge

You will be expected to ensure that professional services provided by the team are of the highest quality, that client care standards are effectively maintained, and that work completed meets the appropriate standards. This will include:

  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date files
  • Ensuring efficient file management, including adherence to timescales and compliance with precedents
  • Optimizing the use of technology and applications to make the client experience as smooth and efficient as possible
  • Complying with the Office Manual and reporting any areas of concern or risk to the partner

Practice Growth & Financial Performance

You will be responsible for billing and administration processes, delegating work to junior solicitors, trainees, paralegals, and the group legal administrator, providing guidance on legal issues, managing cash and disbursement control, and working on ad hoc projects as required. You will also be expected to:

  • Prioritize and progress work efficiently
  • Introduce and manage new business into the firm
  • Maintain a flexible and proactive approach to work and good working relationships with external institutions

Clients and Business Development

You will be regarded as a 'Trusted Advisor' by clients and other professional bodies. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing team capability to market existing services to existing clients and new prospects
  • Innovating with existing streams of ancillary work
  • Developing existing and new contacts and referrers of work
  • Leading on article writing in your team
  • Joining relevant associations and seeking out positions of responsibility

People

You will be responsible for remaining professionally and technically up to date by participating in learning and development activities and recording CPD. You will also be expected to:

  • Develop knowledge of the marketplace and client base
  • Support junior members of the team in developing and widening their own career progression and legal experience

Qualifications

You will be educated to degree level (with a 2:1 or above) with a strong LPC pass or equivalent and hold a current unencumbered practising certificate from the SRA. You will also have:

  • Indicatively, 6+ years post-qualification experience in this area of legal work
  • Good technical grounding in this area of law
  • Any following or local connections (an advantage)
  • A passion for this practice area
  • Flexible with the ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest quality standards and attention to detail
  • IT literate and self-sufficient in using document management systems, MS Office, and the internet as a business tool
  • Previous experience in managing people within a team and supporting junior members of the team (desirable)
  • A clear awareness of the need to develop business with past experience in marketing and promoting expertise in order to attract work and further opportunities
