We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Scientist to join our prestigious research team at the University of Dundee's MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC-PPU).

This exciting opportunity is part of a new academic-industrial global initiative supported by the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, aiming to explore and validate new approaches to target LRRK2, perform systematic mechanistic, structural and safety analyses, and identify clinically relevant biomarkers for LRRK2-driven Parkinson's disease.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and strong academic track record, with significant relevant experience in academic or industrial environments. They will demonstrate expertise in mechanistic cell biology, screening and characterisation of compounds, protein purification, structural biology, and computational and AI modelling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a research project in the relevant discipline area using the appropriate methods and/or techniques.
  • Take responsibility for project development and implementation, including experimental design and identification of techniques necessary to achieve the research objectives.
  • Design, develop, and implement a range of strategies and approaches required across different projects.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to other staff and students within the research team.
  • Collaborate with research colleagues and support staff internally as appropriate to the research.
  • Support the production of research reports and/or publications as required by the funding body or for dissemination to the wider academic community.

Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline with strong academic track record.
  • Significant relevant experience in academic or industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge and interest in understanding pathways linked to neurodegeneration and Parkinson's disease.
  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership roles and supervision of junior members of a research team.
  • Hands-on expertise in biochemistry, mass spectrometry, cell biology, molecular biology, structural biology, signal transduction, data analysis, and bioinformatic analysis.
