The Role

We are seeking an experienced Deputy Editor to join our editorial team and contribute to the success of The Banker magazine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving our editorial coverage, coaching and encouraging reporters to secure scoops and deepen their sources, and supporting the Editor-in-Chief in making strategic decisions about the publication's editorial direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the news agenda for The Banker, working closely with reporters to secure high-quality content.
  • Commission and edit news, analysis, and long-form pieces, as well as contribute to the publication's multimedia output, including videos and podcasts.
  • Oversee the production of The Banker's monthly magazine, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • Travel to attend and report from industry events, providing expert insights and analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief to develop new formats and products, expanding The Banker's existing suite.
  • Contribute to the development of The Banker's awards and recognition programs, ensuring excellence in editorial content.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a writer and editor, particularly in fast-paced newsrooms.
  • Strong understanding of financial technology and payments, with a keen interest in developing well-researched, insightful stories and fresh perspectives on key industry issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to cultivate a network of freelance correspondents and work collaboratively with the editorial team.
  • Ability to travel and attend industry events, providing expert insights and analysis.
