Blood Specimen Collector

The Phlebotomist plays a vital role in the medical laboratory by collecting and processing blood specimens for testing. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for identifying the best method for retrieving specimens, preparing them for laboratory testing, and performing screening procedures.
Responsibilities:- Verify test requisitions by comparing information with the Laboratory Information System log, bringing discrepancies to the attention of unit personnel.
- Verify patient identity by reading patient identification.
- Obtain blood specimens through venipunctures, fingersticks, and infant heel pricks while maintaining specimen integrity using aseptic technique and following department procedures.
- Track collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection, as well as maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Prepare specimens for transportation, including labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patients.
- Order laboratory supplies as required.
- Maintain quality results by following department procedures and testing schedules, recording results in the quality-control log, and identifying needed changes.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal and health regulations.
- Resolve unusual test orders by contacting physicians, pathologists, nursing stations, or reference laboratories, referring unresolved orders back to originators for further clarification, and notifying supervisors of unresolved orders.
- Stay updated on job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- Serve and protect the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies, and procedures, federal, Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Joint Commission International (JCI), and College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards.
- Enhance the laboratory department and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Earn an estimated salary range of $4,500 - $6,000 per month based on your skills, experience, and location.
