Bereavement Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Bereavement Support Coordinator to join our team at Mary Stevens Hospice. As a key member of our Patient and Family Support Services, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support to individuals and families affected by bereavement.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinating the delivery and administration of hospice bereavement care, ensuring seamless support to our patients and their loved ones.
- Providing post-bereavement support to family, friends, and carers of hospice patients, as well as pre-bereavement support when needed.
- Delivering support in individual, family, and group settings, tailoring your approach to meet the unique needs of each client.
- Supervising volunteers delivering bereavement care, ensuring they receive the necessary training and support to provide high-quality care.
- Working closely with all members of the hospice team to identify clients and deliver services, promoting a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Supporting the delivery of educational commitments, including training and development programs for volunteers and staff.
- Delivering post-bereavement support and advice to individuals and families, providing a safe and non-judgmental space for them to process their grief.
- Providing a supportive approach that is tailored to the client's needs, recognizing the importance of empathy and compassion in bereavement care.
- Identifying cases that may benefit from allocation to Bereavement Volunteers, ensuring that our clients receive the support they need.
- Organizing and administering referrals to external agencies, ensuring seamless transitions and minimizing disruption to our clients.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with external services, promoting collaboration and ensuring that our clients receive comprehensive support.

Person Specification- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and external partners.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on confidentiality and discretion.
- Good listening skills, with the ability to adapt your communication style to meet the needs of each client.
- Ability to recognize mental and physical health problems, and to seek support when needed.
- Good organizational skills, including information management, resource allocation, and time management.
- Up-to-date IT skills, with the ability to use technology to support your work.
- Knowledge of the local area, networks, and communities, with a focus on promoting collaboration and partnership working.
