Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mental Health Nurse to join our Offender Health Directorate team. As a Senior Mental Health Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with complex mental health needs in a prison setting.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mental health nursing, with experience in working with patients who have primary and/or secondary mental health needs. You will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and risk assessment.

You will be part of a large and dynamic team, working closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver a wide range of positive health opportunities to individuals in custody. You will have the opportunity to engage with patients in a mental health assessment, deliver brief therapeutic interventions, and contribute to risk management meetings.

The role requires a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written skills, as well as the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. You will be responsible for supporting and supervising junior staff, and engaging in individual and group supervision and reflective practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality care to patients with complex mental health needs in a prison setting
  • Work closely with other healthcare professionals to deliver a wide range of positive health opportunities to individuals in custody
  • Engage with patients in a mental health assessment, deliver brief therapeutic interventions, and contribute to risk management meetings

Requirements
  • Registered RMN with NMC registration
  • Experience in working with patients who have primary and/or secondary mental health needs

  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
