We are seeking an experienced Medical Secretary to support our Oral and Maxillofacial, Orthodontics, and Restorative Dentistry teams at the NHS.

Job Description

This is a key administrative role within the Head and Neck Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional support to medical staff, patients, and other departments.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in an administrative setting, with excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • A strong typing speed of 40 words per minute (WPM) is essential, with experience in audio typing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, including Excel, and hospital databases such as PAS and e-Referral systems is highly advantageous.
About This Role

This position requires a high level of concentration during prolonged periods of typing, and the ability to work effectively in a busy clinical environment.

Training will be provided on patient records systems and other necessary tools.

Key Responsibilities
  1. To track investigations and clinics, including those on Oncology pathways.
  2. To provide administrative support to the medical team, ensuring accurate completion of RTT and outcomes.
  3. To handle telephone enquiries from patients, GPs, and other agencies in a courteous and professional manner.
Person Specification
  • A good standard of general education, including Maths and English GCSE or equivalent.
  • Prolonged concentration during typing of clinics.
  • Typing to RSA II / OCR II (WPM 40).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel.
  • Audio typing experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all individuals.
  • Knowledge of Trust patient administrative systems and software.
  • Knowledge of referral to treatment (RTT).
  • Previous experience working in the NHS or medical/hospital setting.
