GSL Education is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Speech, Language and Communication Needs Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision located in York, North Yorkshire.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to support students with speech, language and communication needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the speech and language therapist to implement individualized therapy plans and provide one-on-one and small group sessions to help students overcome their barriers to learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and interactive lessons to students with speech, language and communication needs.
  • Work with students on a 1:1 and small group basis to help them develop their communication skills and overcome their barriers to learning.
  • Support the speech and language therapist in implementing individualized therapy plans and conducting one-on-one or small group sessions with students.
  • Monitor and document student progress and adjust therapy techniques accordingly.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop strategies for incorporating speech and language goals into the classroom and home environments.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment where students feel comfortable practicing and improving their communication skills.
Requirements:
  • Experience and knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).
  • Bachelor's degree in speech and language pathology, communication disorders, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties (previous experience in an educational setting is highly desirable).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
