Thurrock Council is a dynamic local authority seeking an experienced Debt Recovery Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing debt portfolios and ensuring effective collection processes.

Salary and Benefits:

The successful candidate can expect a salary of £39,660 per annum, which is within the range of £37,815 - £43,083. Additionally, we offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 25 days rising to 30 after 5 years' service, flexible working to support a good work-life balance, and an excellent Employee Assistance Programme.

Job Description:

The Debt Recovery Specialist will be responsible for effectively managing the major processes involved in the collection of various Portfolios of Debt owed to the Council. This will include:

  • Managing difficult conversations with customers
  • Knowledge of debt collection processes, including Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, and Sundry
  • Understanding of the Money Claims Online (MCOL) process and County Court procedures
  • A clear understanding of Charging Order, Bankruptcy, and Committal processes
  • Experience using negotiation skills and communicating with members of the public
