Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Genetic Counsellor to join our dynamic team at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our clinical genetics service, you will be responsible for providing expert genetic counselling to patients and their families, as well as contributing to the development and delivery of our service.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have a strong background in genetic counselling, with experience in at least one specialist area of genetic counselling. You will be responsible for overseeing a specialist area of the genetic counselling team, with a focus on rare disease and prenatal work, but may be required to provide cross-cover for cancer services. This will be dependent upon service needs and will take into account the experience and interests of the candidate.
About the Role
As a Principal Genetic Counsellor, you will be responsible for providing clinical consultation, counselling, and referral support for patients, midwives, consultants, and other health professionals in the region. You will work closely with various referrers, developing and providing collaborative multidisciplinary services to best support our patients.
Requirements
- Registered Genetic Counsellor with the Genetic Counsellor Registration Board (GCRAB) or equivalent
- Experience as a Band 7 (or above) genetic counsellor with experience in at least one specialist area of genetic counselling
- Previous experience of student supervision and clinical education at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Ability to identify and lead on service developments within the genetic counselling service
