As the Head of NPD R&D, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation at Smith+Nephew. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement the early innovation strategy and process in partnership with the Global Marketing and NPD leads.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and transfer the multi-generational innovation pipeline to New Product Development to support AWM revenue growth.
  • Create and develop the core technology roadmaps to support the long-term strategic plan that underpins AWM New Product Development roadmaps.
  • Lead technology assessment for initial M&A/External Innovation opportunities across AWM, making recommendations aligned to strategic growth drivers with the Global Marketing lead.
  • Drive several high-impact strategic technology and product developments, providing SME direction as required on technical design decisions to accelerate and drive business growth.
  • Act as an expert within the company on multiple product platforms, providing technical guidance and support.

This role requires a broad and comprehensive understanding of evolving technology advancements in materials science, adhesives, bio-actives, electromechanical devices, NPWT, and other relevant areas. You will be responsible for the technical success and onboarding of NPD projects, as well as driving the goals, future development, and objectives of the Wound R&D organisation.

Requirements:
  • Strong understanding of customer needs and ability to convert them into scientific and business solutions.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong technical expertise in materials science, biomechanics, simulation techniques, and new product development processes.
