Job Title: Community Forest Beat Manager

As a key member of the Forestry England (East Forest District) team, you will be responsible for the operational delivery and visitor safety and experience across the community woodland estate in Thames Beat. You will work closely with the Community Woodland Lead to manage and sustainably expand the woodlands for people, wildlife, and the climate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and mentor the Thames Beat team to deliver operational programmes and support their professional and personal development.
  • Plan and deliver operational programmes, including woodland creation and maintenance, vegetation management, tree safety, and harvesting, working with staff, volunteers, contractors, and partners.
  • Ensure programmes are delivered efficiently, safely, and to schedule, in line with district and national guidance.
  • Create and maintain management plans and programmes of work for each woodland.
  • Develop, inspect, and maintain recreational facilities, such as trails, play areas, and car parks, and promote safe management practices.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in woodland management, operations, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to work.
  • Knowledge of woodland management practices, including safety procedures and environmental considerations.
