Position Overview
The Forestry Commission oversees an extensive public forest estate, encompassing a diverse range of habitats and landscapes that are crucial for biodiversity and conservation efforts.
This role focuses on the management of mixed woodlands, contributing to the restoration of ancient woodlands and the enhancement of various ecosystems. The successful candidate will engage in hands-on forest management activities across a significant area of protected land.
Key Responsibilities
The selected individual will be tasked with a variety of essential forest management and maintenance duties, including:
- Woodland Management: Implementing techniques for the regeneration and upkeep of woodlands, utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Responsibilities will include tree planting, vegetation management, and the maintenance of forest infrastructure.
- Conservation Efforts: Applying skills to manage and restore diverse habitats, including heathland and wetland areas. Tasks may involve scrub clearance and habitat restoration initiatives.
- Recreational Facility Maintenance: Ensuring the upkeep of paths, signage, and barriers to promote public access and enjoyment of forested areas.
- Team Collaboration: Working effectively with colleagues to maintain safety standards and promote a positive work environment.
Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications:
- Practical experience in forestry or environmental management.
- Proficiency with hand tools and chainsaw operations.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for outdoor work and conservation.
