Job Description

Under general supervision (Level 2), or limited supervision (Level 3), the successful candidate will undertake field survey and measurement of native vegetation to support the planning and management of forest ecosystems. This involves regular fieldwork assisting in a range of programs, including mapping the extent of Phytophthora dieback disease, measurement of trees and vegetation, and field survey of management boundaries and natural features.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake field surveys and measurements of native vegetation to support forest ecosystem planning and management.
  • Assist in mapping the extent of Phytophthora dieback disease and other forest health issues.
  • Measure and record tree and vegetation data to inform forest management decisions.
  • Conduct field surveys of management boundaries and natural features to support forest planning and management.
Selection Criteria
  • Demonstrated ability and experience (Level 2), or considerable experience (Level 3), working in native forests or plantations, undertaking field surveys, tree measurement or plant disease mapping, and collecting and organising field data.
  • Ability to identify issues and implement solutions to practical and technical problems.
  • Demonstrated ability (Level 2) to work effectively in a team, show initiative and work under general (Level 2) or limited (Level 3) supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in natural or plantation forest environments, including willingness to work away from home base for occasional or extended overnight stays in the South West.
Eligibility

To be eligible for permanent appointment, it is essential to have Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency status or a visa with entitlement to live and work in Australia for the term of the contract.
