Job Summary

Essex County Council is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Refuse Loader to join their team. As a Refuse Loader, you will be responsible for collecting household and commercial refuse and recycling from various locations, ensuring that waste management services operate effectively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect all waste and recyclables from domestic and/or commercial premises in accordance with safe working methods and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Act as a reversing assistant and assist the driver in the safe maneuvering of the vehicle on the round or at the disposal location.
  • Deliver sacks, bins, containers, leaflets, and other promotional material as instructed.
  • Operate compaction and bin lifting equipment in a safe manner.
  • Ensure that bin lifting and compaction equipment is secured correctly when the vehicle is in transit.
  • Clear up spillages associated with waste and recycling presented for collection in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Work flexibly to ensure that all waste management services operate effectively and efficiently, assisting other crew members, teams, and supervisors as instructed.
  • Record and report all relevant information relating to collections, and deal with issues and queries from residents/customers in a courteous, responsible, and impartial manner.
  • Report defects to vehicles and equipment in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Assist in the washing of the refuse collection vehicle and ensure it is maintained in a clean and tidy condition.

Requirements

  • Dealing with members of the public in some capacity.
  • Experience of undertaking refuse and recycling collections or similar operations.
  • Experience of providing good customer service.
