Social Work Professional for Wigan Borough

We are seeking an experienced Duty and Care Practitioner to join our team at Service Care Solutions Ltd in Wigan Metropolitan Borough. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of working within a Duty Service and be able to start a new contract within the next four weeks.

As a Social Work Professional, you will conduct initial assessments to identify the needs of children and young people, initiating care proceedings in accordance with statutory requirements. You will also undertake assessments under the Single Assessment Framework to inform care planning and decision-making, developing and implementing effective care plans, including signposting services as required.

The successful candidate will have experience working with vulnerable children and young people, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A qualified Social Worker with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification is essential, along with registration with Social Work England.

This role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to meet statutory deadlines and respond to the needs of children, young people, and their support networks. Working one week out of five on duty, based in an office environment, this position requires a full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Conducting Initial Assessments to identify the needs of children and young people
  • Initiating Care Proceedings in accordance with statutory requirements
  • Undertaking assessments under the Single Assessment Framework to inform care planning and decision-making
  • Developing and implementing effective care plans, including signposting services as required
  • Producing Section 17 reports to inform local authority decisions
  • Preparing Initial Court Statements to present in court proceedings
  • Responding to emergency situations, including visits to vulnerable individuals
  • Chairing meetings to coordinate care planning and interventions
  • Working one week out of five on duty, based in an office environment
Qualifications and Skills:
  • A qualified Social Worker with a relevant degree or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and young people
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Holding a full enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check

Salary Information: The estimated salary for this role is £25-£35 per hour, dependent on experience.
