Assistant Professor in Virology: Virus-Host Interaction and Control

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Professor to join our School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, further enhancing our world-class research in virology. The successful candidate will contribute to the One Virology strategic research area, focusing on health and disease in a medical and/or veterinary medical context.
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record in virus-host interactions and virus control, with a research vision that complements our current strengths and has the potential for interdisciplinary and international research collaborations.
As an Assistant Professor, you will develop a career-appropriate track record in both research and teaching, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. You will also act as a role model, promoting a positive research culture and developing a research programme in your field of expertise.
The role involves undertaking research, individually and collaboratively, and publishing high-quality, impactful papers regularly. You will also seek and secure funding through the development of your own research proposals and be active in research and knowledge exchange projects both internally and externally.
You will have the ability to deliver a high standard of teaching through a variety of methods to support the School's teaching requirements, with the potential to contribute toward delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
This is a permanent position, and we welcome applications from candidates who are passionate about virology research and teaching.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to the One Virology strategic research area, focusing on health and disease in a medical and/or veterinary medical context.
- Develop a research programme in your field of expertise, addressing either fundamental mechanisms or clinically relevant concerns.
- Undertake research, individually and collaboratively, and publish high-quality, impactful papers regularly.
- Seek and secure funding through the development of your own research proposals.
- Deliver a high standard of teaching through a variety of methods to support the School's teaching requirements.
