Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Professor to join our School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, further enhancing our world-class research in virology. The successful candidate will contribute to the One Virology strategic research area, focusing on health and disease in a medical and/or veterinary medical context.

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record in virus-host interactions and virus control, with a research vision that complements our current strengths and has the potential for interdisciplinary and international research collaborations.

As an Assistant Professor, you will develop a career-appropriate track record in both research and teaching, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. You will also act as a role model, promoting a positive research culture and developing a research programme in your field of expertise.

The role involves undertaking research, individually and collaboratively, publishing high-quality papers, and seeking and securing funding through research proposals. You will also supervise doctoral researchers and lead new research initiatives linked to your area of expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a research programme in virology, focusing on health and disease in a medical and/or veterinary medical context

• Contribute to the One Virology strategic research area, collaborating with colleagues to advance our understanding of virus-host interactions and virus control

• Teach and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, developing a career-appropriate track record in teaching

• Publish high-quality research papers and secure funding through research proposals

• Supervise doctoral researchers and lead new research initiatives linked to your area of expertise

Requirements

• PhD in a relevant field

• Demonstrable track record in virus-host interactions and virus control

• Strong research background and a passion for teaching

• Ability to develop and lead a research programme

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
