The Role: Hospital-Based Independent Domestic Violence Advocate

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) to join our team at St. Hellier's Hospital in Sutton. This role offers a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to provide essential support to survivors of domestic abuse.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop personalized safety plans for victims of domestic abuse.
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and emotional support to individuals experiencing violence or threats.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff, social workers, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response to survivors' needs.
  • Advocate on behalf of victims within the hospital setting and facilitate access to relevant resources and services.
  • Deliver group training sessions to educate acute staff about domestic abuse dynamics and best practices for supporting survivors.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of domestic abuse, its impact on victims, and effective intervention strategies.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis management techniques.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with vulnerable individuals.

  • Experience working with victims of domestic abuse or other vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
