SEMH Teaching Assistant Secondary Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant Secondary to join a fantastic school in Washington. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant Secondary, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a secondary school setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in a secondary school environment, working closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored lessons and activities.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting positive behaviour and social skills.
  • Monitor and report on student progress and wellbeing, providing one-to-one and small group support as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant Secondary or similar role is desirable.
  • A good understanding of the challenges faced by students with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience, with a relevant qualification or training in education or SEMH support an advantage.
  • Possess an enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to have one processed immediately.
