Pharmacy Procurement Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacy Technician to lead our pharmacy procurement team at Scarborough Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with the Procurement and Distribution Manager to contribute to the operational running of the distribution and procurement services and pharmacy stores team.

This role would suit a candidate with a background in pharmacy procurement, who possesses excellent communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work accurately while meeting deadlines. Relevant experience is essential, including the ability to perform accurate data analysis and reporting.

Main Responsibilities

To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team across both York and Scarborough sites, working closely with the Principal Pharmacy Technician (Distribution and Automation) and the Pharmacy Procurement and Distribution manager.

Day-to-day management and leadership of the Procurement and Distribution Senior Pharmacy Technicians and pharmacy stores and staff at the Scarborough site.

Effective communication with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, and external agencies to ensure efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines in line with regional and national pharmacy contracting.

Communication with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals, and external customers on a wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines, including changes to contracts, availability, and cost of medicines, as well as supply issues or delays.

Education, Qualifications, and Training

Essential

  1. BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences / QCF Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  2. Certificate in management or equivalent training, including effective and legal recruitment, appraisal, and performance management.
  3. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  4. Knowledge of legislation, and pharmacy law and ethics in relation to the service to be managed.
  5. Knowledge of clinical governance, medicines management, risk management, health and safety, and the wider health service.

  2. Effective audit internal process/make analysis of service impact through the reporting of KPIs.
  3. Ability to implement, assess, and evaluate competency-based training programs in specialist areas.
  4. Ability to participate in long-term planning of the service to be managed.

  6. Appropriate attention to detail. Ability to actively contribute to the implementation of change in service, systems, and products.
  7. Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures.
  8. Ability to monitor and manage errors and to undertake an assessment of training and best practice.
  9. Able to use a range of computer programs relevant to the post.
