About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Liaison and Diversion Practitioner to join our team at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Trust. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide intensive mental health and social care assessments, identify care pathways, and divert individuals within the police custody suites, courts, and probation services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend police custody suites and magistrates courts to provide mental health assessments, advice, and identify robust care pathways for individuals with potential mental health or learning disability needs.
  • Provide written information to the police and court to inform disposal and care pathways.
  • Work closely with referring agencies within the custody suite, court, and probation to act as a single point of contact for health.
  • Address the court in person to advise on disposal and care pathways.
  • Facilitate mental health act assessments at the police station where diversion is indicated.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, Care Programme Approach, and other relevant codes of practice.
  • Experience of working with people who are difficult to engage, with a strong understanding of severe and enduring mental illness.
  • Ability to work autonomously, with a strong commitment to partnership working and collaboration with service users and carers.
  • Substantial experience of practice at a senior level, with evidence of leadership skills and experience of supervising others.
  • Current driving licence and access to a car during working hours (reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with disabilities).
