About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intensive Care Consultant to join our progressive team of intensivists and allied professionals at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will have a special interest in Intensive Care Medicine and an associated speciality in Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine or any other compatible Medical base specialty.

The Trust has close clinical and academic ties with local medical schools, and will be actively involved in the new Kent medical school. Successful applicants will be able to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with these Universities.

The ideal candidate will have full GMC registration and License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of receiving CCT at the time of interview. An Enhanced DBS (Adults and Children) check is required for this post.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a high standard of care to any patient for whom they have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to them and cared for by them personally or by members of their team.

They will participate in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim of ensuring a high standard of patient care across the Trust.

They will work in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to provide high quality health care to the Trust's patients, and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust's strategic direction.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • Registered with GMC
  • On the specialist register, or within 6 months of acquiring CCT
  • Must have completed intermediate or Step 1 training in ICM or equivalent and eligible for Associate Fellowship FICM

Desirable Criteria

  • FRCA or equivalent, or a second registered specialty to complement the trusts requirements
  • CCT in ICM as described by the Faculty of intensive care medicine (or evidence of equivalent levels of experience/training)
  • FFICM examination or other higher professional qualification
  • ALS/APLS/ATLS or NLS provider or instructor

Research

Essential Criteria

  • An understanding of general principles, scientific method and interpretation of literature

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of personal research projects and their presentation
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals

Audit

Essential Criteria

  • Understand the principles of audit
  • Evidence of participation and completion of audit projects particularly relating to ICU

Desirable Criteria

  • Completed the audit loop in a number of audits

Personal Skills

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of good communication skills

Desirable Criteria

  • To have undertaken a postgraduate communication skills course

Management

Essential Criteria

  • Evidence of organisational ability

Desirable Criteria

  • Attended a National Health Service Management Course appropriate to Consultant duties
