About the Role
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our expanding aortic programme. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality adult cardiac services, including approximately 900-1,000 cases per annum and thoracic workload of up to 500 cases per annum.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a service in Cardiothoracic Surgery with responsibility for adult cardiac surgery, working in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Participate in the out-of-hours On-Call service for the department, providing telephone advice and support for major incidents.
- Take part in medical audit and research as appropriate, ensuring the requirements of clinical governance are met.
- Ensure adequate arrangements are in place for hospital staff to contact you when necessary.
Junior Medical Staff Supervision
- Play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, working in conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues.
- Take responsibility for teaching, examination, and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.
Management & Service Development
- Take an active role in the management of the Division, working in conjunction with the Divisional Manager, Consultant, and Senior colleagues.
- Develop and implement new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future, in conjunction with the Divisional Manager and Consultant colleagues.
- Take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure maximum efficiency of the department.
Clinical Governance
- Ensure the requirements of clinical governance are met, working in conjunction with Consultant colleagues.
Health & Safety
- Take responsibility for your own Health & Safety, complying with safe working arrangements, policies, and procedures.
- Accept a duty to other staff and patients to ensure any hazards are reported and managed appropriately.
