Science Festival Venue Coordinator

The British Science Association is seeking a highly organized and communicative individual to join their team as an Event Management Assistant for the British Science Festival 2024. As a key member of the operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth execution of events in designated venues across the festival site.
This role offers a unique opportunity to develop event management skills and experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including festival assistants, speakers, and attendees. Festival Overview: The British Science Festival is Europe's longest-standing science festival, traveling to a new location each year. Our events bring together scientists, artists, and members of the public to explore the latest scientific discoveries and innovations.
About the Role: As an Event Management Assistant, you will work closely with the BSA Operations Team to coordinate logistics, manage event schedules, and provide support to festival assistants. Your duties will include acting as a point of contact for stakeholders, using initiative to solve problems, and liaising with the BSA Operations Team to escalate issues and complete tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate event logistics, including setup, scheduling, and teardown
- Manage festival assistants within your designated venue, ensuring they complete necessary tasks and adhere to festival protocols
- Liaise with stakeholders, including festival attendees, speakers, and the BSA Operations Team
- Use initiative to solve problems and adapt to changing situations
- Collaborate with other Event Management Assistants to ensure seamless coordination across the festival site
Requirements: To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication and organizational skills, a proactive approach, and a passion for science engagement. You should also possess strong problem-solving abilities, be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and be comfortable with technology. Experience in event management or a related field is advantageous but not essential.
Working Arrangements: This is a part-time position, with hours varying depending on the specific needs of the festival. You will be required to attend training sessions prior to the festival and work closely with the BSA Operations Team during the event.
Salary: £15 per hour, paid for all hours worked, including training days. Travel costs will be reimbursed, and accommodation may be provided if required.
