About the Role

The Director of Dispute Resolution and Employment Relations will be responsible for leading the Dispute Resolution Directorate at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas). This is a senior leadership role that requires a strong track record of achievement in dispute resolution, employment relations, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Dispute Resolution Directorate with a clear vision and strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality dispute resolution services to customers.
  • Advise and support the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on key sensitive or high-profile cases, providing expert guidance on employment relations and dispute resolution.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dispute resolution services, including individual and collective conciliation, mediation, and arbitration.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including employer bodies, trade unions, government contacts, and other external partners.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Dispute Resolution Directorate, ensuring that all staff are equipped to deliver high-quality services to customers.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve the quality and speed of dispute resolution services, including the use of technology and innovation.
  • Ensure that the Dispute Resolution Directorate is financially managed effectively, with a focus on delivering value for money and improving efficiency.
  • Represent Acas at external events and conferences, promoting the organization's expertise and reputation in dispute resolution and employment relations.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of achievement in dispute resolution, employment relations, and leadership. They will be able to demonstrate:

  • Expert knowledge of employment relations and dispute resolution, including the ability to advise and support the CEO on key sensitive or high-profile cases.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of dispute resolution services.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
