Metastatic Breast Cancer Care Specialist

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust Full time
Job Overview

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is developing new ways of working for senior cancer nurses in all areas of cancer care. We are now looking for oncology nurse practitioners to join our existing team supporting the oncologists to deliver a consultant-led rather than consultant-delivered services.

Breast cancer patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer have increasing life expectancy. Many treatment options have become available over the last decade to benefit patients. There are expected to be further new lines of oral systemic drug therapies, directed to multiple drug targets soon.

A successful breast oncology service requires specialist allied health professionals in addition to clinicians to deliver all aspects of breast oncology care and management. The role of a dedicated metastatic practitioner allows specialist skills to be developed in relation to the metastatic space, a dynamic and constantly changing treatment landscape.

With mentor support, the post holder will integrate into the existing specialist oncology team working as an autonomous practitioner to carry out their extended roles in clinic.

A fundamental part of the role will include assessing patients' fitness and analysing results prior to each treatment using skills to take a thorough history, assess toxicity and arrange and track relevant investigations.

The post holder will ideally be keen to take advantage of all learning opportunities available to advance practice and this will be fully supported. Applicants must hold a minimum of a degree and may wish to work towards a further Masters qualification.

Main Duties of the Job

It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and have post-registration experience in oncology care or breast cancer care. As an oncology nurse practitioner, your key role is to deliver high-quality, safe and clinically effective oncology care for metastatic breast cancer patients.

As a senior member of our nursing team, advanced clinical knowledge and skills are required to work as a core team member. Working autonomously is essential. You will require evidence of clinical leadership and managing change, delivering teaching programmes and possess excellent advanced communication skills with the ability to manage resources, people and situations effectively.

ESHT is committed to helping its staff develop through learning, as well as opportunities for career development and leadership. We are proud to provide first-class services to our cancer patients.
