About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Communications and External Affairs to lead our corporate communications strategy and drive the RSC's reputation and profile among policy makers, industry stakeholders, and the wider public.

This is a key role in our Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Co-Artistic Directors, Executive Director, and other senior leaders to develop and implement a cohesive and integrated communications strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy and Planning: Develop and oversee a comprehensive corporate communications strategy to deliver bold and ambitious goals.
  • Advocacy and Policy: Lead policy discussions with political and policy stakeholders, leveraging the RSC's reputation and expertise.
  • Measurement and Evaluation: Use data and evidence to demonstrate impact and inform strategic decisions.
  • Media Relations: Manage media relations and reputation management to maximize the RSC's profile and reputation.
  • Corporate Communications: Develop and implement a range of corporate communications activities to engage stakeholders and promote the RSC's work.
  • Leadership and Coaching: Lead and develop a high-performing team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure success.
Requirements
  • Senior Level Experience: Proven track record of working at a senior level across a range of Communications services.
  • Public Policy Experience: Demonstrable senior level experience in a public policy environment, preferably with experience in the cultural and creative industries.
  • Credibility and Influence: Ability to command credibility in convening and leading policy discussions with political and policy stakeholders.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Confident in the building and use of data and evidence to demonstrate impact and make the case for change.
  • Brand and Reputation Management: Proven track record in brand and reputation management.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically, innovatively, and critically about communication.
