About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Neath Port Talbot Hospital. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in developing services and working towards a 24-hour single point of admission service.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the development of our services and contribute to the creation of new inpatient services and the interface with community teams. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary management team who are strongly focused on working with clinical colleagues.

We offer a competitive annual salary, the equivalent of 33 days annual leave (pro-rata), and opportunities for career development and training. You will also have access to excellent CPD with our own medical education centre based on the Cefn Coed Hospital site in Swansea and a vibrant academic programme.

The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong understanding of current developments in psychiatry and other aspects of mental health, as well as substantial knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, and contemporary issues in mental health. You will also be expected to have experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues and be able to initiate service improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement effective working relationships with all levels of staff
  • Contribute to the development of new inpatient services and the interface with community teams
  • Initiate and progress audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Work with management and clinical colleagues to improve services
  • Develop and commission local mental health services
  • Contribute to research in mental health
Requirements
  • Medically qualified, MRC Psych or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of current developments in psychiatry and other aspects of mental health
  • Substantial knowledge of change management, relevant legislation, and contemporary issues in mental health
  • Experience in purchaser/provider contractual issues
  • Ability to initiate service improvement
