About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Nutrition Expert for Young Minds to join our team at Banana Moon Day Nurseries. As part of this key role, you will be responsible for creating and executing a menu that meets the nutritional needs of young children.

The successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar cooking role, ideally within a nursery or care home setting. You will need to possess strong knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices, as well as the ability to plan menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to young children.

This is a full-time, permanent position with flexible working hours, Monday to Friday. The salary for this role is estimated to be £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience. A valid Food Hygiene certificate at minimum level 2 is required. An enhanced DBS check is also mandatory due to working in a nursery environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and execute a menu that follows nutritional guidelines and meets the specific needs of young children
  • Prepare meals for up to 50 children daily, including breakfast, lunch, and late afternoon tea
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and served in a safe and hygienic manner
  • Manage the kitchen, including menu planning, budgeting, and ordering food supplies
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety in the kitchen
  • Engage with children during cooking sessions, allowing them to have hands-on experience with food preparation
  • Work closely with the nursery staff to accommodate special dietary requirements and allergies
Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a similar cooking role, ideally within a nursery or care home setting
  • Strong knowledge of safe food handling and hygiene practices
  • Ability to plan menus that are nutritious, balanced, and appealing to young children
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage the kitchen efficiently
