We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team at North Hertfordshire College. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with SEND, including those with Neurodiversity and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
- Assist teaching staff in delivering high-quality teaching and learning, including the use of assistive technology, to ensure students achieve their planned outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to the setting and monitoring of individual targets, including the review of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
- Support students with study skills, pastoral needs, and community access, ensuring they successfully navigate challenges and progress towards their aspirational destinations.
- Assist with personal care, aid mobility, administer medication, and provide support with individual arrangements for students with complex needs.
- Support students in engaging with work experience opportunities, including arranging work placements, coaching students for interviews, and maintaining departmental work placement records.
- Experience of working with vulnerable young people who have SEND, including Neurodiversity and SEMH challenges.
- Commitment to improving opportunities for young people with SEND, particularly in areas of independence, health and well-being, social inclusion, and work opportunities.
- Proven communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to motivate others to reach their potential.
- High levels of personal integrity and confidentiality.
- A strong track record demonstrating the ability to adapt and develop creative methods to engage young people, with a calm and positive approach.
- Self-motivation and a proactive approach to utilizing personal initiative within a structured framework.
- Understanding of health and safety, equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) and safeguarding, as well as SEND legislation such as EHCPs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to adopt and use IT systems effectively, promoting the use of Assistive Technology.
- Level 2 or equivalent qualification in English and maths.
- Level 2 qualification in learning support or a related discipline.
- Ability to travel across the college's sites, with a car being desirable.
