Position Overview

Join the dedicated team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust as a Clinical Speech and Language Therapy Specialist. Our Speech and Language Therapy department is renowned for its comprehensive services, including critical care SLT, specialized FEES assessments, and support for acute frailty patients.

The successful candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide exceptional care to inpatients facing various communication and swallowing challenges. This role encompasses working across multiple specialty wards, including those focused on elderly care, respiratory issues, trauma, orthopaedics, surgery, and emergency services. Close collaboration with the Trust's Nutritional Support Team is also essential, with participation in weekly meetings and ward rounds.

Applicants should possess a strong foundation in dysphagia management. While experience with videofluoroscopy and knowledge of tracheostomy care are advantageous, they are not mandatory. We offer tailored training opportunities based on the successful candidate's existing skill set. Excellent communication abilities and a flexible approach to meeting clinical guidelines are crucial.

As part of your role, you will receive monthly supervision from a senior SLT and will have the responsibility of mentoring junior SLTs and assistants. There are opportunities for regular in-service training and continuous professional development (CPD).

This position requires a commitment of five working days, with flexibility across a seven-day rota. Enhanced pay rates apply for weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high-quality, safe, and effective Speech and Language Therapy service within Stockport Foundation Trust.
  • Manage a specialized caseload within acute hospital settings, including medical, surgical, trauma, orthopaedic, and frailty wards. Assess, plan, and implement patient-centered, evidence-based interventions.
  • Provide evidence-based care, education, and information to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Support the training and development of Speech and Language Therapy students, while supervising and guiding junior therapists and assistants.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the Speech and Language Therapy service within specialized clinical areas.
