Position Overview

At Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, we are seeking a dedicated and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Specialist to enhance our esteemed department. This role is pivotal in providing high-quality therapy services to patients in critical care and various acute settings.

Role Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders for a designated patient caseload, employing evidence-based and patient-centered methodologies.
  • Regularly review and adjust treatment plans to ensure optimal safety and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support and advance the Speech and Language Therapy service within specialized clinical areas.
  • Provide expert advice on communication strategies and dietary modifications as necessary.
  • Function as an independent practitioner, maintaining professional accountability for your work while balancing patient needs and professional responsibilities.
  • Engage with healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans that contribute to holistic patient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary meetings, and best interest discussions as required.
  • Facilitate training sessions for healthcare staff regarding communication and swallowing interventions.
  • Contribute to the creation of educational materials and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with local service monitoring requirements through diligent data collection.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement local policies aligned with national guidelines.
  • Conduct clinical audits to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain professional expertise by staying updated with current research and practices.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior therapists and assistants.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Speech and Language Therapy team and the broader multidisciplinary team to maximize service effectiveness.
