The Role

We are seeking an experienced underwriter to join our North regional commercial business. As a key member of our Business Development Team, you will be responsible for driving the profitable growth of our traded new business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the local underwriting strategy for your specialist area in conjunction with the Regional Manager, Regional Underwriting Manager, and New Business Lead.
  • Underwrite larger, more complex cases consistently and profitably.
  • Provide leadership to ensure that the target retention rate for the region is achieved, handling a small number of cases yourself.
  • Develop close, effective relationships with brokers to develop new opportunities to contribute to the team's new business target.
  • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape from market moves to new product launches.

Requirements

  • An excellent understanding of P&C and underwriting larger, more complex risks.
  • Excellent knowledge of the insurance market, industry, competitors, brokers, and factors that can affect the market, including soft/hard markets.
  • Ideal ACII qualified or willing to progress to this.
  • Excellent relationship management and sales skills.
  • Keen to become the face of Hiscox - this is a market-facing role that will allow you to further enhance your relationships.
