Position Overview

We are looking for a dedicated Child Safety Patrol Officer to join our team at West Sussex County Council. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety of children and pedestrians at designated crossing points.

Compensation: £11.79 per hour.

Work Environment: Your primary location will be Drayton Depot, but you will be assigned to specific crossing sites, which may vary day to day.

Responsibilities:

As a Child Safety Patrol Officer, your main duties will include:

  • Providing a reliable service to assist children and pedestrians in crossing roads safely.
  • Standing for extended periods while managing traffic flow with a safety pole.
  • Ensuring the safe passage of individuals in all weather conditions.

Skills and Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • The ability to effectively manage traffic stopping procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with children and adults.
  • A good understanding of vehicle stopping distances, especially in adverse weather.
  • The capability to remain composed under pressure.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to follow instructions and record information.
  • Familiarity with the Highway Code and its relevance to pedestrian safety.

Experience:
