Job Purpose

As a Construction Management Trainee at ISG, you will play a vital role in assisting with the daily management of our construction sites. Your primary focus will be on delivering a high-quality service and product to our clients, aligning with the project goals. You will work closely with the project team, applying ISG's culture, systems, and procedures to minimize risks associated with the project and the company.

Key Responsibilities

Initially, you will be on-site, shadowing the Construction team to gain a deeper understanding of the role. You will be allocated tasks, attend meetings with subcontractors, and internal and external stakeholders, allowing you to expand your knowledge and network. As you progress through the apprenticeship, you will take on more responsibilities, eventually overseeing individual sections or packages. Your duties will include:

  • Overseeing the logistics of a project.
  • Managing subcontractors undertaking the works.
  • Ensuring works meet required specification and quality benchmarks.
  • Keeping a daily diary of project activities.
  • Collaborating with the Senior CM & TSM to deliver the project.
  • Working closely with the Health & Safety Manager to plan the works.
  • Managing the reporting of health and safety issues, including accidents and near misses.
  • Identifying problems and offering solutions before and during construction.
  • Reviewing designs and drawings, the project program, and contributing where necessary.
  • Producing precise and succinct project reports.
  • Developing logistic plans and method statements.
  • Reviewing and managing temporary works processes associated with the project works.
  • Collaborating with planners to develop detailed programs and produce short-term programs.

The Apprentice Programme

Our five-year apprenticeship program provides exposure to all aspects of the business, giving you the opportunity to join one of our core disciplines: Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building/Technical Services Management, or Planning. Throughout the program, you will rotate through different departments, gaining a solid understanding of how your specialism fits within a typical project lifecycle. You will be sponsored to complete a relevant degree, and you will have access to ongoing training and development to help you reach your career ambitions. As a collaborative business, our apprentices are integral members of the team, encouraged to share their ideas and challenge the norm.

Candidate Profile and Entry Criteria

To be eligible for this role, you will have at least 104 UCAS points from your A-Levels or a relevant BTEC, ideally including a math or science subject or a construction-related Level 3 BTEC Diploma. We recognize that this time is used to make you an expert in your field, allowing you to flourish and progress your career further once promoted off the scheme.
