Job Purpose: As the Health and Safety Manager at Cranswick Country Foods PLC, you will be responsible for leading the HSE team to promote and deliver the group HSE policies and strategies to the site(s). Your primary objective is to protect employees and the environment by evaluating and ensuring compliance with government safety regulations, industry standards, and group H&S policies.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate and ensure compliance with government safety regulations, industry standards, and group H&S policies.
  2. Assist managers, supervisors, and staff to identify and report hazards/near misses in the workplace and take corrective action or initiate controls to minimize risk.
  3. Implement and monitor effective proactive systems such as H&S inspections, Step Back & Take 5, and leadership tours.
  4. Undertake internal health and safety auditing and inspection and take corrective action for any non-conformances identified.
  5. Ensure all risk assessments are carried out for each machine/process on the QUOR system.
  6. Ensure that all COSHH assessments are conducted using the SEVRON system.
  7. Maintain health and safety statutory reports.
  8. Ensure all 3rd party surveys are scheduled as required and that all actions are uploaded onto the site surveys App and tracked to completion.
  9. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation, keep the site register up to date, and feed back to the appropriate stakeholders where necessary.
  10. Advise directors, managers, and supervisors in the implementation of practices and procedures to ensure that the site complies with statutory requirements and guidelines, and group standards.
  11. Liaise with group health and safety and other senior managers to identify the correct levels of resources and manage the operation within these agreed parameters.
  12. Ensure site compliance with the company's ISO and Management Systems.
  13. Challenge, mentor, and coach staff in all aspects of health and safety performance. Challenge current processes and practices, with a view to continual improvement.
  14. Objectively assess the H&S team's performance and develop improvement plans by way of succession planning.
  15. Ensure that department managers are accountable for their area of responsibility through their job description.
  16. Manage HSE departmental budget.
  17. Conduct data analysis on accidents, hazards/near misses, and safety observations to identify trends and opportunities to improve.
  18. Ensure all work equipment that falls within the PUWER regulations is inspected in line with the company PUWER policy and regulations, CURS document issued, PDI completed, and commissioning document undertaken.
  19. Review and update the training requirements of the department in line with current legislation and changing departmental operations.
  20. Ensure that all H&S projects are delivered on time and within agreed budgets.
  21. Respect and honour the sentiment of the Cranswick ethical policies and codes of conduct when interacting with colleagues.
  22. Ensure that all staff have been given the appropriate level of training necessary to carry out their work within legislative and Health and Safety guidelines.
  23. Attend the quarterly group H&S meeting, present information as requested, and close out any minutes assigned to your site within the agreed timescales.
  24. Ensure all group KPI reports are completed on time.

Requirements, Experience, and Person Specification:

  1. NEBOSH General Certificate or working towards.
  2. Familiar with Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System accredited to ISO/Food Industry experience is desirable but not essential.
  3. You must be a team player with a 'can do' attitude.
  4. Flexible with working hours and duties.
  5. Full UK driving license.
  6. Ideally a background in FMCG.
  7. Lead with behavioral Health and Safety with a view to promote and encourage best practice and cultural changes.
