About the Role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a skilled and experienced Wheel Lathe Technician to join our team at the North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the wheel lathe and associated equipment, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our rolling stock.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials, and equipment.
  • Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe and ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third-party rolling stock.
  • Perform post-operation checks and adjustments.
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
  • Provide operational support to fleet staff as required.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
  • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required.

Requirements

  • Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
  • Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules and regulations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Good team worker.

Desired Skills

  • Intermediate IT skills - typically Word, Excel.
  • Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
  • Depot driving and shunting.
  • Wheel Lathe operations and maintenance.
