About the Role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a skilled Wheel Lathe Technician to join our team at the North Pole Train Maintenance Centre in London. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining the wheel lathe, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the condition of the work site, materials, and equipment.
  • Support health and safety practices in the workplace.
  • Prepare for and undertake planned maintenance on the wheel lathe and ancillary equipment.
  • Carry out wheel turning for Hitachi and third-party rolling stock.
  • Perform post-operation checks and adjustments.
  • Confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications.
  • Provide operational support to fleet staff as required.
  • Develop professionally and support good working relationships.
  • Liaise with Hitachi and external personnel as required.

Requirements

  • Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
  • Sound knowledge of and compliance to rules and regulations.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Good team worker.

Desired Skills

  • Intermediate IT skills - typically Word, Excel.
  • Milling/Turning/CNC or similar experience.
  • Network Rail Sentinel PTS.
  • Depot driving and shunting.
  • Wheel Lathe operations and maintenance.
